Vermis I by Plastiboo |
Dark Fantasy, Art | Vermis I is a manuel on how to play a game that does not exist, it includes levels, maps, items, bosses, curses, negative afflictions, Gods and factions, extremely deep lore for this game that does not exist. The first book brings you into this world, it is 100% world building, there is little story that I could decipher and is perfect for inspiration of a DnD (or your chosen TTRPG) campaign. The art this book features is a nice mix of orignal and nostalgic, flicking through the pages you slowly feel more and more like a teenager in the 80s sat in their basement, sucked into an unfamiliar world. Plastiboo is my all time most favourite artist and their work feels impossible to describe without having reference on hand. | I think Vermis is quite a hard thing to rate and reccomend, you get it or you don't, like Souls-bourne games it takes a certain type of person, if you like unique fantasy, set in a dark and ambiguous world, this almost Lovecraftian world will pull you in from the get go. 7.8/10 | Purchase From Hollow Press! |
Vermis II by Plastiboo | Dark Fantasy, Adventure | Vermis II is a book about adventure and trickery, we follow the Wayfarer from a blazing desert to a mind boggling dimension within a mirror. It expands on the world massively, getting more in depth with factions such as The Bone Hunters, Desert dwellers, Devotees of Ghylak and more, all completely unique with motivations beyond understanding, all of which come equipped with different items, stats and able to inflict different curses, diseases and ailments. Once again the art of Plastiboo does not disapoint, it has infact gotten even more complex and bewildering, with desgins that rival Bloodbourne and Elden Ring, although clearly inspired. Reading this book feels more of a story, whereas the first felt like a guide on how to play a game, it has not lost its charm through changing how information of this world is conveyed, but has allowed Plastiboo to get far deeper into the world and horror that people that inhabit this unknown plane of exsistence are forced to endure. | Vermis II only improves upon the first book, better art, better writing, more indepth monsters, better understanding of the diseases and the fear people in this world feel. You will not find a place of respite here, and this book perfectly conveys that fact. 9/10 | Purchase From Hollow Press! |
